CANADEM Operational Rosters of Sectoral Expertise

CANADEM has a rapid mobilization capacity to identify screened and available experts from its consolidated roster (comprising a number of sectoral sub-rosters) of 25,841 individuals. We accept applications for roster only from most qualified candidates with requisite professional expertise, academic qualifications and a clear mission potential.

We screen to confirm technical skills, but really concentrate on critically-important interpersonal skills and personal capacity. Thus, CANADEM screens its experts for their flexibility, adaptability, tolerance of ambiguity, and team skills. We carry out: initial screening when candidates apply, secondary screening by sectoral experts who have a thorough knowledge of the professional requirements and an ongoing screening through standby partner evaluations and feedbacks to validate, strengthen, or qualify its previous screening on individual experts. If there is any uncertainty, CANADEM’s Mission Adaptation and Personnel Director does additional screening. Uncertainty may extend to family members, and he has briefed them as well (example, for our Afghanistan mission mentioned below in more detail).

We are able to identify the right experts and deploy them in days, with the added ability to sustain and backstop them worldwide. For the past 20 years, our core activity has been to advance international peace and security through the recruitment, screening, promotion and rapid mobilization of international experts, increasingly from less developed countries particularly in Middle East, Africa and Asia. Extensive expertise and experience gained from best practices of over 140 projects, and a sufficiently large enough number of candidates ensure that CANADEM has an excellent ability to identify experts in time for rapid deployment.

We have nearly every skill set conceivable in the field of humanitarian response and international development. Majority of our experts have the experience needed to staff field operations. Roster members come from international non-governmental organizations, UN agencies and field missions, other international governmental organizations) and government service. Overall, the roster has 63 languages: all speak English; 10,569 are bilingual French/English; 1,120 fluent/native Spanish speakers, 1,358 speak Arabic. Our screening ensures only qualified experts are rostered, and optimal candidates are selected to best meet operational needs.

In an emergency, CANADEM’s rapid-reaction mechanism can often identify experts for direct hire in 48-72 hours to deploy within 5 to 10 days.
